ahgc is an architectural practice based in London and Suffolk. We are passionate about creating new spaces that respond to the need of the client, whether stand alone or interventions to existing buildings. Through our work we craft buildings that respond to their context, focusing on light, materiality and contemporary sustainable design.

The practice is ARB Registered and takes on a limited number of commissions at any one time, working directly with clients throughout. ahgc works with clients at every stage of a project, from the first conversations about what a building or space could be, through to design and delivery.

The practice is often involved early on, helping to shape ideas about how spaces will look, feel, and work before the detailed decisions are made.

Before You Buy

Buying a property with plans to extend, alter, or develop it is one of the biggest financial decisions most people make — and one of the least well-informed, at the point it matters most.

We offer pre-purchase appraisals to help you understand what a property could become before you commit to buying it. We'll look at the planning context, any constraints on what can be built, the condition of the building, and what your ambitions are likely to cost in broad terms. The aim is to give you a clear-eyed view of the opportunities and the risks, so you can proceed, or walk away, with confidence.

It's preliminary advice rather than a detailed design service, but in our experience it's one of the most valuable things an architect can offer.

Brief & Early Design

This is where we get to know each other and your project. We'll talk through what you want, what you need, and what matters most to you. From that we'll prepare sketch designs, plans, early 3D ideas, and material references, so you can start to see the possibilities before any money is committed to the detail.

Design Development & Planning

Once the design direction feels right, we develop it together into a scheme ready for planning submission. We handle the application and liaise with the planning authority, keeping you informed throughout.

Technical Design

With planning in place, we work up the full technical package, construction drawings, material specifications, and coordination with any other consultants. This is the stage that turns an approved design into something a builder can actually price and build.

Construction

We stay involved on site, regular visits, oversight, and someone to call when questions come up. The build should feel manageable, not mysterious.

Handover

The project completes, but we don't disappear. If questions arise after you're in, we're still here.
